Update

On Tuesday, September 30, President Bush signed a spending bill providing full FY09 funding for military construction and the departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs.  The rest of the government (including the Department of Education) will continue to be funded at FY08 levels under a continuing resolution until March 6, 2009.

The College Board's Access and Diversity Collaborative is pleased to announce its 2008-09 series of national seminars that will address a comprehensive mix of legal, policy, communications and advocacy issues associated with institutional efforts to achieve access and diversity goals. Led by EducationCounsel, the Collaborative will sponsor two series of seminars: Knowing the Basics—a seminar series designed to address legal and policy fundamentals; and Leading Institutional Change—a seminar series designed to address major policy and research trends, effective communications strategies, and key institutional policy management issues. (The first of the Leading Institutional Change seminars will be held in Austin, TX on October 23-24.) S.3573. A bill to establish partnerships to create or or enhance educational and skills development pathways to 21st century careers.  Senator Murray (D-WA).
 
S. 3574.  A Bill to establish the Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones Fire Suppression Demonstration Incentive Program to the Department of Education to promote installation of fire sprinkler systems in qualified student housing and dormitories.  Senator Brown (D-OH).
 
S.3590. A bill to promote grants for use by rural LEAS in purchasing new school buses.  Senator Reid (D-NV).
 
HR.7063.  A bill to raise achievement in international education in elementary and secondary schools through grants to improve teacher competency and to support programs in international education that supplement core curricula in such schools.  Representative Sanchez (D-CA-47).
 
HR.7072. A bill to make technical corrections in the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008.  Representative McKeon (R-CA-25).
 
HR.7093.  A bill to require accreditation of English language training programs.  Representative Frank (D-MA-4).
 
HR.7107. A bill to require as a condition of participation in programs under Title IV of the HEA of 1965 public institutions of higher education to charge dependent children of members of the Armed Forces a rate of tuition equal to the rate of tuition charged to in-state residents.  Representative Smith (R-NJ-4).
