Update

Yesterday the Senate passed an $838 billion economic stimulus bill, which included $84 billion for education, sending the measure into conference with the House.  House and Senate negotiators moved quickly to resolve differences between the two bills, and have agreed that the final economic package will cost $789.5 billion.  The Senate conferees are: Sen. Reid (NV), Sen. Inouye (HI), Sen. Baucus (MT), Sen. Cochran (MS), and Sen. Grassley (IA).  The House conferees are: Rep. Obey (WI), Rep. Waxman (CA), Rep. Rangel (NY), Rep. Lewis (CA), and Rep. Camp (MI). The goal is to pass a compromise package in both chambers and send it to President Obama before leaving for the upcoming Presidents' Day Recess.
