Update

The House passed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 
Omnibus Appropriations Act on February 25, and the Senate began debating the bill this week. Congress must approve the measure, or pass a temporary FY08 extension, no later than Friday when the current continuing resolution funding numerous federal agencies and programs expires.

New Legislation

H.J.Res.29: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United Sates regarding the right of all citizens of the United States to a public education of equal high quality.  Sponsor: Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (IL-2).
 
S.456:  A bill to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, to develop guidelines to be used on a voluntary basis to develop plans to manage the risk of food allergy and anaphylaxis in schools and early childhood education programs, to establish school-based food allergy management grants, and for other purposes.  Sponsor: Sen. Christopher Dodd (CT). 
 
H.R.1161: To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to provide grants for innovative teacher retention programs.  Sponsor: Rep. David Price (NC-4).
