Update
On Tuesday, April 21, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act to expand national service opportunities in the areas of education, energy and health care. Both Democrats and Republicans praised the legislation as the largest expansion of volunteer opportunities since President John F. Kennedy issued a call to service nearly 50 years ago.
This week, the House Committee on Education and Labor will hold a committee hearing on strengthening America's competitiveness through common academic standards (For more information, click here).
