Update

House Education and Labor Committee Chairman, George Miller, this week introduced budget reconciliation legislation that would eliminate the Federal Family Education Loan Program and instead originate all new federal student loans through the Federal Direct Loan program.  The Congressional Budget Office estimates that this change will generate significant savings for the federal government. The Chairman's legislation – to be considered by the committee on Tuesday, July 21 – would use this savings to provide mandatory spending for several new initiatives including the President's early learning challenge grants and college access and completion proposals.   (For more information, Click Here).
