Updates
This week, Congress approved legislation requiring all new federal student loans to originate through the U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan program. Under the new law, savings created by this student lending transition will be use to expand the Pell grant program, boost student retention and graduation at minority serving institutions, support college access and completion, create a competitive grant program for community colleges to develop and improve educational or career training programs; and make it easier for student borrowers to repay their loans.
